HyNor is the national Norwegian project for the introduction of hydrogen as fuel for transportation.
HyNor is organized in local projects and cooperates both on a common infrastructure as well as on the acquisition of cars and buses for the project as a whole. The project is funded by private companies, station and cars owners and local, regional and central public institutions.
HyNor unites a long list of national and regional companies, research institutions, NGOs and authorities in order to provide a local effort for the establishment of a common hydrogen infrastructure. Thus HyNor becomes the driving force for the preparations for hydrogen as a fuel in road transport in Norway.
International involvement becomes ever more important. HyNor is cooperating to acquire hydrogen cars and buses with the other Scandinavian projects in Iceland, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. In addition HyNor signed in 2009 a Memorandum of Understanding with the Californian Fuel Cell Partnership for exchange of information and experiences.
HyNor has currently acquired 14 refitted Toyota Prius hydrogen vehicles and 4 Mazda RX8. In 2011 many additional hydrogen vehicles will hit Norwegian roads: 10 Mercedes B-class fuel cell vehicles, 5 Th!nk hydrogen cars, and 2 Alfa Romeo MiTo fuel cell vehicles. The arrival of the vehicles is due to the Norwegian involvement in the EU project H2-moves Scandinavia. The Oslo node is currently working toward acquiring 5 fuel cell buses to the HyNor project within 2011.
